Boosting Readiness: Key Trends and Interventions from the NHARNG 2024 ACFT Analysis

The New Hampshire Army National Guard’s 2024 Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) Analysis revealed several critical insights into soldier performance. By identifying patterns in the data and applying targeted interventions, SiteWell Solutions’ Human Performance (HP) Team continues to support readiness, injury prevention, and mission success. Below are key takeaways from the analysis, along with the strategies being deployed to support ongoing improvement.

Soldiers who passed the 2-mile run were significantly more likely to also pass SDC (80%), plank (87.5%), power throw (50%), with no failures in the deadlift or pushups.

1. The 2-Mile Run: A Key Indicator of Overall Performance

Trend: Soldiers who passed the 2-mile run were significantly more likely to pass other ACFT events.

  • 80% also passed the Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC)
  • 87.5% passed the plank
  • 50% passed the standing power throw
  • No failures were recorded in the deadlift or hand-release pushups

Intervention: To improve aerobic conditioning, SiteWell Solutions offers self-guided app-based running programs, individualized coaching, and seasonal Run Clubs led by Strength and Conditioning Coaches (SCCs). These options enhance accessibility while targeting endurance and pacing strategies.

50% of soldiers who failed the ball throw did not fail any other ACFT events. Failures are likely attributed to technique deficits.

2. Modified Events: Permanent Profiles and 2-Mile Challenges

Trend: 50% of soldiers on a permanent profile failed their modified version of the 2-mile event, highlighting a readiness gap even with accommodations.

Intervention: The HP Team works closely with soldiers and Guard medical providers to bridge this gap. Dietitians and SCCs provide personalized support to address mobility, energy balance, recovery, and progressive training methods. This collaborative care model supports safe progression even under medical restrictions.

50% of soldiers on permanent profiles failed their modification event for the 2-mile test.

3. Standing Power Throw: A Technique Issue, Not a Fitness Issue

Trend: 50% of soldiers who failed the Standing Power Throw (SPT) passed every other event, suggesting that failures stemmed from technique rather than physical capacity.

Intervention: The SWS team launched targeted “SPT Technique Workshops” and integrated biomechanics breakdowns into on-site training and “turf talks.” SCCs also design programming focused on explosive power and form mechanics through the app to ensure scalability across units.

On average, soldiers who failed the height, weight, and tape standards exceeded the weight limit by 46% pounds.

4. Body Composition Standards: Weight Management Challenges

Trend: Soldiers who failed height, weight, and tape standards exceeded the weight limit by an average of 46 pounds.

Intervention: In response, the SiteWell team developed the Healthy Weight Management program, now available on-demand through the SWS app. The program includes practical guidance on sustainable nutrition, training habits, and behavioral change—available to soldiers and their families to foster long-term health and compliance.
